Therefore it is essential that we become highly proficient communicators. The goal is not just to survive in our new home, but to make it our new home and language is one of the most important parts of that. The other part of those first months is to serve the community. This entails that we first become a relevant part of the community by learning a new way of life. Becoming a relevant part of the community means we will invest in relationships with a host family, host church, and broader community. Therefore, we take learning the indigenous language very seriously. Alongside language, we will be learning a new culture and worldview.
